Antonio Marin Montero

Antonio is the King of the modern guitar makers. His guitars are sweet, sensitive and never let you down. I only have 2 to 3 of these a year. There is a two year waiting list.

I personally play one of Antonio's guitars. The quality of the guitars that come from the shop is very high.  Each guitar maker puts his own personality into each instrument thus supplying a variety of sound filling the desires of different clients.

To place an order, I take a deposit of $500. and require the balance once I have the guitar in hand.

Antonio Raya Pardo
Antonio Raya Pardo Classical Guitar, Torres model, Brazilian with a sitka top, 650 scale length. This guitar is dynamite. Not only is it sensitive like the Granada School instruments but it packs a lot of carrying power. It is smaller bodied than the standard guitar, quite suitable for a women or young professional or just somebody that is into small guitars.

Jose Marin Plazuelo
Jose Marin Plazuelo Classical Brazilian and spruce is his most famous model. They tend to be sensitive, light and fast responding. He is also known for his Flamenco guitars. My favorite guitar of his is modeled after a Simplicio guitar. It is smaller bodied than the standard Torres even though he calls it the Torres model. I found it carries very well in a concert hall intensifying the highs. This model guitar has been chosen to be one of the center pieces by a number of collectors. We need 4 to 6 weeks lead time if you would like to order one.

Jose Gonzalez Lopez
Jose Gonzalez Lopez was born march 3 1961. He came from a family of construction workers in the town of Ojiares a small town outside of Granada. He worked as a waiter and then later was a tree trimmer. He married the sister of Jose Marin Plazuelo. As a result of their friendship, he was invited to work at the shop of Antonio Marin Montero in 1989 as a machinist. After working with Antonio and Pepito he began wood working making his first guitar in 2000. Since that time his guitars have been sold all over the world from the US to Japan

Antonio Raya Ferrer
Antonio Raya Ferrer Brazilian and spruce 650 scale length. Antonio is the result of the union of two guitar making families. His mother is the grand daughter of Benito Ferrer who made Segovia's first guitar. His father is Antonio Raya one of Granada's most famous luthiers. The result is equal to his heritage. Try one and see.!!!!!!!

BUYING YOUR GUITAR

It is usually cheaper to come to Spain to buy a guitar than it is to buy a guitar from a guitar dealer in your own country, even after paying the airfare and accommodation. This is because you will be buying directly from the guitar maker without having to go through any middle-men.

Follow these three steps:  Come to Spain,  Visit the Guitar Makers, Order your Guitar

You can book a room at Casa Lisa, a guitarist's hostal in the heart of Granada. Dance classes, guitar lessons and language lessonsare available on an individual or semi private basis.

Visiting the Guitar Makers

The Granada School of Luthiers is world famous for the sensitivity and balance of their instruments. You can visit the guitar makers and see how they make their guitars.. You will be able to play the instruments and enjoy a tour of the workshop. The guitar maker will explain the difficult process of building world-class guitars from start to finish. Producing a single guitar can take several years and requires a high degree of skill and craftsmanship.   We will visit the famous guitar makers above.

Buying Your Spanish Guitar

Granada is a guitar paradise and there are also many other guitar makers in the city that we can go to.

Once you have chosen your guitar there are many simple and convenient payment processes. You can pay in cash or I can help you arrange an electronic funds transfer from almost any bank in the world. The prices of the guitars range from $3000 to $6000 depending on exchange rates and availability.

I can also find very high quality (concert and professional) guitars for lower prices.

Lisa Guitar Strings
The most popular string in Andalucía

I developed the string with my brother in law who worked for Du Pont. He was working on a project to take the sound out of tires. To take the sound out of tires he had to find what made the loudest sound. Then I was brought in to try the different polymers on my guitar. We finally settled on a polyester string. Not only was it loud but it had lots of different timbers. After that we tried them over a 5 year period in Granada. Not only did every itinerate guitarist from Northern Europe, New Zealand and China give me feedback on their development but every gypsy in Sacromonte tried them. I tried them in concert. Sometimes I found a combination that sounded good but didn't last to the end of the performance. After much trial and tribulation this string was accepted by both the classical and flamenco players of Spain. The top professional players all use my strings as well as myself. The Strings come in both medium and high tension. Most players buy a dozen at a time so please ask for the quantity discount.     Price $6.00 per set

ACCESSORIES

Brazilian Rosewood
I have a limited supply of Brazilian Rosewood. I was licensed as a Brazilian rosewood dealer by APHIS in 1993. I can accommodate  personal likes. Minimum order 5 sets.

Spanish Polishing Cloths
These are the clothes that the Luthiers of Spain use with their guitars. They are soft, thick and washable. Use them to protect your French polish guitars from damage or for padding a case that doesn't fit. Use it for anything else you can think of like; dusting the piano washing the windows or your car. It will not scratch French polish or violin's on the level of a Stradivarius. It is a favorite of my strings player friends in the Baltimore Symphony.       Price $2.00 each

Lisa Tap Plates
A clear transparent tap plate with 3M adhesive and masking on the front.
1. There was a need for a good tap plate. Antonio Marin asked me to find one.  I tried lots of materials but the best was polyester.  It was harder than vinyl. The vinyl muted the sound of the guitar.  We had to find a material that was hard to protect the wood but not so hard as to mute the sound. After many failures once again we went to DuPont for one third of the tap plate.

2. Then from there we had to experiment with different adhesives in thickness and strength. If there was too much adhesive it muted the sound. After a year or so my present tap plate was finally finished using a 3M adhesive. It has been very successful. It is transparent so one can trace the sound hole on the tap plate and not have to cut a pattern to know how to cut it.

3. The third part of the tap plate is the masking. In the process of applying the tap plate it can get scratched. The tap plates have a covering or masking that protects it. Once it is applied on the guitar the masking can be pulled off thus protecting the tap plate during application.   Price $3.00 a piece

Titan Tap Plate Remover
We have recently started collaborating with Titan labs that have developed a product to take off the tap plate! Just a couple of drops will do you. The adhesive is dissolved without hurting your guitar!!
